Inventing Metabolism-Based Therapies for Disease

Dr. Zhang Weihua obtained his PhD degree of molecular endocrinology from the Karolinska Institute, Sweden, 2002. He did his postdoctoral training at the MD Anderson Cancer Center with a research focus of cancer metastasis. He is now an independent faculty member of the Department of Biology and Biochemistry at the University of Houston. His current research focuses on the energy metabolism of cancer cells. He has published more than 20 peer reviewed research articles, from which two patent applications for novel cancer therapies have been filed through the University of Houston. In order to speed the translation of these inventions to the clinic for cancer treatment, Dr. Weihua and his associates created Metabocentric Biotechnologies Inc in 2014. The mission of the company is to invent and develop novel therapeutic products targeting metabolism to treat disease, such as cancer.
