Dr. James Briggs obtained his PhD degree in Chemistry from Purdue University in 1990.  He carried out his postdoctoral training at the University of Houston and the University of California San Diego. He is now a tenured Professor in the Department of Biology and Biochemistry and Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at the University of Houston.  His current research focuses on the use of computer modeling and simulation methods to investigate protein dynamics and function.  Some of his work is focused on inhibitor lead discovery and drug resistance.  He has published more than100 peer reviewed research articles and is a co-inventor of awarded patents in three scientific areas.  He co-founded VisiGen Biotechnologies, Inc in May of 2000 and served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. He was involved in daily operations of the company through founding to merger with Life Technologies in late 2008.  He is President and Financial Control Officer of Metabocentric Biotechnologies, Inc. - a company started with his associates in 2014 to advance therapeutic products and strategies targeting cancer metabolism.
